DoD: Iowa soldier also killed in attack

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - A soldier from Bellevue has been identified as one of four killed in a drone strike in Kuwait.

The Department of Defense said Sgt. 1st Class Noah L. Tietjens, age 42, from Bellevue, Nebraska, was killed by a drone that struck where he and three others were working in Port Shuaiba, Kuwait, on March 1.

Sgt. Tietjens, along with all the other casualties, were assigned to the 103rd Sustainment Command out of Des Moines, Iowa, supporting Operation Epic Fury. They were all Army reservists.

According to the Army Reserve, the 103rd Sustainment Command provides food, fuel, water, and ammunition to forces as well as transportation of equipment and supplies.

According to the U.S. Army reserve, Sgt. Tietjens had two prior deployments to Kuwait in 2009 and 2019.

Sgt. Tietjens was awarded the following medals during his time in the Military:

The Department of Defense also confirmed 20-year-old Sgt. Declan Coady of West Des Moines, Iowa was also killed in the attack.

“We honor our fallen Heroes, who served fearlessly and selflessly in defense of our nation. Their sacrifice, and the sacrifices of their families, will never be forgotten,” said Lt. Gen. Robert Harter, Chief of Army Reserve and Commanding General U.S. Army Reserve Command.

“On behalf of the Army Reserve, we express our heartfelt condolences to their families and loved ones. We remain steadfast in our commitment to honoring the legacy of our fallen and supporting their teammates and families during this difficult time,” said Harter.

The last service member killed in action from the metro was Cpl. Daegan Page back in 2021.

In a statement, Page’s mother wrote:

My heart is heavy today as we acknowledge the six brave service members lost this week, including local Solider Sgt. 1st Class Noah Tietjens.

​The families of the fallen, and to the loved ones of those now beginning the long road to recovery are just getting their bearings on this new reality. We all must hold space for them and support them in the days ahead. Our family and the Cpl. Daegan Page Foundation are standing in the wings, ready to support when the time is right, not just in these first difficult days, but for the weeks and years ahead.
